THE PHONE

The first event of Ten days to the Island, ‘THE PHONE’, documents a ‘sit in’ or in artist' terms ‘residency’ at the public face of a telephone company. The intention to get something done culminated in a realization that actually most people within the company and certainly at the public interface of the company were powerless to get it done. The method of getting things done was to construct an email and send it, then advise the customer that it will take up to 24 hours, 48 hours or 72 hours. Our relationships with telephone lines, wireless communication and computers generate sometimes efficiency and at other times a powerlessness.
